The Carrian group in Hong Kong was part of an accounting scandal. They grew very large, and then they were accused of accounting fraud. The bank auditor was then murdered, and an adviser for the firm committed suicide. This then led to the collapse of the company.

On January 22, 2002, Kmart filed for chapter 11 reorganization. This was due to great financial challenges the company was facing. Their business improved greatly, and the company became successful again.
